Sophia V. Turner-Smith

/ MBA, MFA, CFMP

Sophia V. Turner-Smith is a marketing and growth executive who combines strategy, data, technology, and execution to drive measurable business results. Her experience spans global corporations, professional services, financial services, agencies, and startups, giving her a broad perspective on how to build brands, generate demand, strengthen client relationships, and create the infrastructure needed to support growth.

As Chief Marketing Officer of Kelley Kronenberg, Sophia leads firmwide marketing and business development strategy across multiple markets and lines of business. Her work encompasses growth strategy, digital marketing, client intelligence and retention, CRM and marketing technology, analytics and attribution, AI-driven initiatives, brand strategy, and business development. She has led major transformation initiatives ranging from CRM and digital platform launches to performance analytics and automation, while building teams and processes designed to connect marketing investment directly to business outcomes.

Earlier in her career, Sophia worked across both the corporate and global network agency sides of marketing, including work with global organizations such as Citi, as well as entrepreneurial and startup environments where speed, resourcefulness, and hands-on execution are critical.

Her perspective is distinctly global. Sophia has lived and worked in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Brazil, Mexico, France, and the United States and speaks four languages, a fifth underway.

Sophia holds an MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management, then ranked the No. 1 graduate program in International Business in the U.S. by U.S. News & World Report. There, she developed a strong foundation in global business, strategy, and analytics. She later earned an MFA in Interactive Media from the University of Miami, expanding that foundation into data visualization, interactive design, UX research, and emerging technology. Together, the disciplines shape an approach to marketing that combines business strategy and analytical rigor with technology, creativity, and an understanding of how people interact with brands and digital experiences. She has also completed MIT Executive Education in Digital Marketing Analytics and Predictive Analytics and holds the Certified Financial Marketing Professional (CFMP) designation from the American Bankers Association.

She serves on the Board of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) Fort Lauderdale Network.

Key Accomplishments

/& Competencies

REVENUE & GROWTH DRIVER

  • $80 Million won with the second largest global account. Member and activation leader in a 5-team pitch team. Growth came from digital worldwide activation and marketing using data analytics to inform business and grow sales. Sales funnel metrics, standardised reporting and new processes were fundamental to grow from the original $25 Million.
  • Market penetration in 50 U.S. states with a newly branded online bank experience. This included new branding architecture and marketing for the US Digital Division: branding strategy, web, and app development with AI and predictive content, segmentation, demand generation, product bundling, branded communications, content strategy, metrics-driven analytics, social media strategy, KPI-setting, strategic digital marketing, internal & external communications, events, and new partnership management.

DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION ENABLER

  • New efficient operational agility set up across 90 country teams within 10 months was achieved by transforming unconnected traditional marketing efforts into an improved and efficient business model that centered on an analytics-first approach. This consisted of plotting data points, consistent data tagging and tracking, data cleansing, digital consumer data analytics, testing methodology, a flow of internal communication and collaboration, digitally-minded teams, tight process-driven launches, KPI-standardization, and improved digital consumer journeys. It showed visible uplifts in global targets maximizing ROI, reach, visits, online sales, pre-order, service activation, and conversion.
  • Drove the new martech stack inside the bank chiefly by implementing Marketo as a marketing automation software solution to support segmentation, A/B testing, lead scoring, email marketing, marketing attribution, analytics, and reporting. Also led website development with CRM integration (compliant with web accessibility regulation – WCAG), a new mobile loyalty app, and first-time-ever chatboxes with performance analytics.
  • #1 ranking in consumer preference garnered with a new mobile banking service by securing bank’s first fintech partnership, which delivered unique value to customers with a daily loyalty touchpoint while benefiting the bank as a revenue generator and as an agent of domestic growth for the 400,000-strong merchant network.

DATA ANALYTICS IMPLEMENTER

  • +400% increase in revenue sales delivered using data analytics in a large scale capacity, as well as predictive analytics. By testing the sales funnel across owned, earned and bought media, new data insights were discovered. By determining variables that were positively correlated, these could be further examined to evaluate for causal inference. Demonstrating the likelihood of people converting in other markets gave our team a large best practice advantage.
  • +15,000 platform pick up in SEO PR in one week drove over 4,430 platforms to link directly back to the new product page, amplifying product launch awareness for a low cost. By pushing SEO through PR, a whole new process was created for the company with an agile way to seed content through the PR funnel. PR thus became the starting platform for digital assets. Using Live Page Keywords in the PR links (dynamically provided by our listening platform and Google), aided PR and landing page searchability.
  • 20% reduction in CAC for an online-only U.K based fintech providing micro-loans to SMEs in UK & Germany by optimizing the sales funnel and prioritizing channels that are effective to prevent wasted ad dollars.
  • 500% site visit increase for AI-powered identity verification fintech used to onboard customers while adhering to Know-Your-Customer (KYC). This was achieved by optimizing their web and app UX-UI and analytics reporting.

INTEGRATED MARKETING OPERATIONS & DELIVERY

  • Achieved 100% digital activation for $80 to 100-million global campaigns in +90 countries  (Europe, North America, South America, Asia, Africa, Australia) with localized and actionable launches by setting up agile go-to-market processes and managing large, international teams focused on digital marketing campaign strategy and innovation with an emphasis on SEO, mobile, online sales conversion, social media, CRM, metrics, and optimization. As the lead of the implementation side of the team, this was a fast-paced delivery, localizing multiple campaigns at the same time in dozens of countries.
  • Hired, coached, and inspired 12 direct reports selected from senior strategic planners, account directors, and digital project managers for a global account and two direct reports for a regional account out of the London HQ to implement campaigns around the world.
  • Implementation of new efficient processes and marketing software/automation delivered with a get-it-done attitude and process know-how including Marketo and Hubspot in small team scenarios.

CHANGE LEADERSHIP

  • 444% revenue boost for mobile device sales as single example among many of the sales optimization realized by creating first-ever Global Analytics/Optimization Forum. This example in change leadership required communicating a compelling business case for change, a clear call to action throughout the organizations and new execution. It was formed to bring a range of worldwide marketer and agency stakeholders together, previously in silos  and with different goals, to establish common KPIs and to review standardised online sales funnel metrics and customer insights.  This led to a positive transformation in the business.
  • $8 million in business saved by dafting and negotiating a three-year commercial deal with regional clients and benefiting both parties with new business opportunties while providing client savings.

CROSS-FUNCTIONAL TEAM LEADERSHIP

  • 19 million downloads and a 6.8 million global active user base generated by leading a global cross-functional team of more than 100 people and a new hybrid process deploying a high-profile service. Once launched, it was adopted in 100% of targeted countries (+50) over the course of only 24 hours.
  • Created first-ever Voice of the Customer Forum, backed by the CEO, bringing together Department Heads from Legal, Compliance, all Lines of Business, Operations and IT to capture and measure qualitative and quantitative feedback and develop new and improved processes products and services based on the data.

STARTUP MENTALITY

  • $26 million in new pipeline deals and a 400% bump in site visits realized by skillfully executing marketing campaigns and setting up marketing automation for a commercial real estate fintech.
  • 10 years working with fintech start-ups providing marketing strategies, automation, and analytics rigor in their operations, working in a consulting capacity as well as aligning partnerships within the bank. Similarly, working with as little as a 5-person group to build large high-performance teams once traction is demonstrated.

Transformational Marketing,

/Drives Growth

Marketing today accelerates company-wide transformation. Long gone are the days when marketing was simply a cost center. Modern marketing, and particularly the office of the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), can directly influence revenue, growth, customer value, and competitive advantage. As AI reshapes how companies operate and compete, marketing sits at a critical intersection of business strategy, customer intelligence, data, technology, and creativity.

The modern marketing role has a far wider impact on businesses. It is a key driver of digital and AI-enabled transformation. Marketing requires rigorous experimentation, a “Marketing Test Lab” mindset, a high-performance team, the right martech and AI capabilities, operational agility, data analysis, cross-functional collaboration, and a differentiated brand. Together, these create a marketing engine designed to generate measurable, predictable, and scalable growth.

Transformation starts with understanding what clients and prospects really want. CMOs can now combine data, AI, predictive analytics, experimentation, creativity, and behavioral and neuroscience-based insights to understand not only what customers do, but why. Those insights should extend well beyond communications, influencing products and services, customer experience, operations, distribution, sales, and how an organization listens and responds to its market.

Growth comes from competitive advantage. Strong marketers build differentiated brands while continually looking for the “gold nuggets”: the customer and market insights hidden in everyday interactions, behaviors, and data that can become opportunities for growth. AI and predictive analytics dramatically expand our ability to uncover those insights, anticipate behavior, personalize experiences, and translate intelligence into action.

But technology alone is not a strategy. Sustainable growth still requires sound judgment, compelling ideas, strong partnerships, disciplined measurement, and relentless attention to performance. Successful marketers connect these capabilities through an overarching growth strategy, establish meaningful KPIs, test and learn continuously, and use data to determine what to scale, optimize, or stop. When marketing operates this way, it does more than promote the business. It helps transform it.
